01
With a child,
time, too, becomes transparent.
Not because nothing happens,
but because each moment can end where it ends,
without being carried into the next.
02
Emotions still rise—
cried, shouted,
expressed by the whole body.
And then, they pass.
No one has to become
a certain kind of person because of them.
03
A child can be direct,
even absolute.
Not because they have decided
what kind of role to play.
Experience has not yet been burdened
with so much story—
so a no is simply a no,
and leaving is simply leaving.
04
A child is like a clear mirror.
Not because they are always calm,
but because when the wind has passed,
the water does not hurry to preserve
the shape it held a moment ago.
05
Perhaps being with a child
is allowing experience to happen directly,
without hurrying to leave a trace.
Not predicting their future from this moment,
or hardening one response into a character.
They do not have to become
“a certain kind of child.”
Who they are in this moment
may belong only to this moment.
